Getting It

I was speaking with a young woman today as she was sharing the story of her boyfriend struggling with work and pressures and life and just all the junk that goes with living this battle that we are all caught up in.  She spoke of how frustrated he was and the challenges it was placing on their relationship.  Boy, I could really relate.  It seems that I bring so much of my stuff home with me and into the relationships that matter most.  So often, I fear, it is my wife and my children and those closest to me who experience the collateral damage of the arrows that assault my life throughout the day, and I am sure that Satan is just all the more pleased with himself as he watches this mushroom cloud spread the toxic fumes of his strategically placed explosives.

But then she paid me one of the kindest compliments that an author can receive.  She said that after reading my manuscript of The Unseen War, she realized that this too was just part of the battle.  This very wise woman then went to her boyfriend and reminded him that he really did have what it took to win this battle, that he was a warrior, and that Christ in him would see him through it.

And I thought to myself, ‘WOW, she gets it!’  It would have been so easy for her to just blast him for being in a bad mood, or tell him to grow up, or even chide him for not having enough faith, but she didn’t.  She reminded him of who he was, a son of the King.

Like her, we too need to remember who the enemy is.  It is not our wives or children or even our bosses.  They are in the fight too.  It is only as we develop this kind of discernment of the battle around us, as we begin ‘getting it’, that we will finally start gaining back some of that territory that has been lost.

To the King,

David
