A Soldier of Christ

I really have a movie thing going on right now....

Over the New Years weekend, I watched the movie Windtalkers.  If you haven't seen it and have a spare couple of hours, I highly recommend that you watch this one.  A word of caution, it runs a little over two hours and is pretty violent, but given the premise of the movie, it is probably justified.  Without giving too much away, this movie is based upon some true events from WWII.  The US Military instituted a Navajo based language code as means of communications during military maneuvers.  This movie highlights this initiative and also tells the story of a US Marine named Joe Enders and a Navajo code talker named Ben Yahzee (which are fictitious characters).  It is the relationship that develops between these two characters that, in my opinion, makes the movie really good.

During one of the scenes in the movie, Ben and Joe are talking about religion.  During this scene, Joe, who is normally closed off to discussions, shares the following information...

"I was thinking about when they confirmed me (meaning the Catholic church).  I was 8 and they anointed me with the holy water.  I remember (dramatic pause) they told me I was a soldier of Christ.  I guess somewhere along the way I must have switched units."

As soon as Joe uttered those words, something resonated within my heart.  I finished watching the movie but have been thinking about it ever since then.  Given Joe's background up to that point in the movie, I can understand and see how people would relate to his thinking.  Life in our fallen world has the ability to change people's thoughts, ideals, beliefs and perceptions based upon traumatic events.  I have witnessed it first hand with people within my life...

If you haven't read through David's blogs, now would be a really good time to do so.  One of the key themes in David's blogs, and in the way he lives his life, is that we must be very intentional to guard against the efforts of the evil one.  The battle lies all around us - it is in everything that we do.  Thus Knight Vision Ministries was born.  When we lend our sword to those around us, God is not only glorified but something else happens; we band together as a unified front against the works of the evil one and take back lives, minds and souls that rightfully belong to, as David would put it, the King.  Christ died for everyone; believers and non-believers alike.  As a Christian and someone who is called to reclaim lost territory, I offer my sword to those of you in need this year.

"Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings."
(1 Peter 5:8-9)

Your brother in Christ,

Jim

I stumbled onto this blog and you guys are doing some good stuff but isn't it really easy to keep the evil one at bay? I mean we are already saved so all we really have to do is give ourselves wholly to Christ and evil can't touch us. Don't you believe that if you just give your whole life, I mean really give every part of your heart and soul to God that life can be pretty easy? I had rough times in my life but only when God was not number one and others number two.

I totally agree with what you say about everyone coming together. Christ only gave us two rules to follow. Love God and Love everyone else. What I see is that the world is too selfish. People get this Oh Poor Me mentality when what they should really be doing is praying for those that might be attacking them in some way.

Look at the martyrs of old. Even as they were tortured and had flesh ripped from their bodies, we are told how they just sat there praising God and asking for salvation for the people killing them. They weren't about, oh poor me. There was NO ME in what Christ told us to do. It's not about ME. I don't care how bad it seems to be for me, if I keep God in my heart then I am going to be more worried about those who are doing the harm because they are the ones needing the salvation.

The only time self comes into the picture is that we must do everything we can to love God and others.
