Reflections

Once again this morning, I drove my pick-up out by our small farm pond for some much needed time with my father, the King.  The scene was beautiful this morning.  Like a mirror, the water reflected the barren willows of winter along with the blue morning sky littered with patch work clouds as the sun began its accent in the eastern sky.  It was like a picture, yet it was so much more.  A cardinal sang in the background as a flock of Canadian geese flew in perfect formation, honking an introduction to the morning breeze, which was crisp and life giving.  The smell of the dried out prairie grass caused me to take a deeper breath in, and as I exhaled, something besides carbon dioxide left my weary body.

It was a gift, from my Father, to a warrior.  A gift to this warrior.

Yesterday had been one of those days that just seemed to flow well.  My practice was busy, but manageable. I connected with and even ministered to a few through my computer.  A couple of ministry and book leads proved beneficial and as my work day ended, an intense workout at the local gym was just what I needed.  Afterwards, I was able to connect with each of my children in a meaningful way (when was the last time that happened with three teenagers?) and then finally the evening settled with some much needed time with my bride.

And so, as I came to the pond this morning, I was ready for more.  ‘What do you have for me today,’ has become my regular prayer these days.  But instead of another assignment, I was given this gift, and I heard him say, ‘Breathe deeply of this David, breathe deeply of me.

As I did, an unknown weariness left.  In its place?  Faith.  Faith in a God that is much more interested in me than in my efforts

And that makes all of those efforts … well, effortless.  Kinda like a pond on a February morning.

Fight well friends.

To the King,

David
