Master Yoda and Faith: Part III

"In a dark place we find ourselves...a little more knowledge might light our way."  - Yoda

This quote comes from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.  During this part of the movie, the remaining two Jedi, Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi, are fighting for their very existance against the dark forces that have alligned to destroy them.  Allies have been lost or have joined forces with their enemy and there does not appear to be a safe place of refuge anywhere.  Furthermore, they must go into that very place that the enemy now controls, the dark place, and re-engage in the battle.

I would imagine that this scenario rings true at some point in everyone's life.  During these times, it feels as if the evil one, our enemy, is looking to finish us off - to devour us as Peter reminds us.  The efforts of the evil one impacts our relationships, our employment, our children and our marriage.  All aspects of life feel the effects as he very intentionally seeks to eliminate us or lead us away from what we know to be true and sacred.  During this times, where do we run to?  Where do we find our knowledge?  Where do we find our strength?  Where do we find, our Light?

2 Samuel 22:29 reminds us of the following...

"You are my lamp, O LORD; the LORD turns my darkness into light."

Jesus entered into this type of battle once as well; on the cross.  He went into enemy territory, into the dark place, that place that had maintained control over us since the fall and re-established our Light once and for all.  "For Christ, being raised from the dead has become the first-fruits of them that slept." (John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople)

When the battle is upon us and we are at our most despirate hour where then, do we run?  Where then do we find our knowledge?  Where the do we find our strength?  Where then do we find our Light?

Look for Jesus; He will show you the way.

Your brother in Christ,

Jim
