Joy in the Moto

As you have may have surmised from my last few blogs, life has been … intense.  The battle has been fierce, and much has been required.

I was recently given a small booklet by Thomas Williams entitled Following Prince Caspian in which the author comments on the Hollywood movie based on CS Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia.  In it he describes a scene in the midst of all of the fighting to reclaim Narnia, in which Caspian along with the four Pevensie children join in a grand celebration, a time of joy and merry making.  As I read William’s description of the party, of our King, and of his love for the Celebration while on earth, something in me sighed.  ‘How nice that would be,’ I thought.  ‘And how unlikely.’

And then yesterday I receive an e-mail from a friend.  Cam, one of my old riding buddies, was wondering if my motocross track was rideable (I have a small track on our acreage, but hadn’t been on it for at least five months).  I told him that surprisingly, I had just tilled up all of the weeds on it the day before (I often find it so therapeutic to sit out on a tractor, working the land).  He came over and we road ‘til late evening.  Afterwards we sat out on the deck, enjoying a cold beer and talking about nothing.

No ministry happened; no prayers, no bible study … and yet God was so there.  It was an oasis in the midst of a desert, a cease fire in the heart of the battle.  God had set me up, from having to cancel on lunch with Cam the day before, to preparing my track;  from reminding me that I need to slow down, to bringing a friend to help me do just that.

I woke up this morning with aching muscles from sliding my YZ450F out in deep loam, from bouncing over whoops and coming up short on jumps, but my heart was still throwing roost and smiling ear to ear.

The battle is intense, but last night, the King threw a celebration just for me.  How cool is that!

To the King,

David

    David,
Great post brother. I love how you recognized God in your time with Cam (what a cool name) even though there was no "ministry". I needed to be reminded of this. I too am in need of an Oasis maybe the Weber River and a fly rod this weekend?
