Satan's Trifecta

It was a sad day this past Sunday in our Midwestern city of Wichita, Kansas.  A local physician was gunned down in his church as he was preparing to enter the worship service.  Worse yet, the gunman was a self-proclaimed born-again Christian.

You see, the physician that was executed was a well known abortionist, one of the few in the country that would go so far so as to perform late-term abortions.  This man that shot him was understandably appalled at the actions of this physician, and so he was able to convince himself that he would be doing society and God a favor by murdering this abortionist.

Now of course, this made the national news.  And sure enough, the very first picture that we see is the picture of the assassin’s car with a Jesus fish on the back.

All of the time I am certain that Satan is sitting there smiling.  He has, in one split second, succeeded in betraying the man that he had deceived for years by convincing him that he was actually serving women by killing their babies.  He had deceived a second into believing that it was up to him to take a gun and fix matters himself; and finally, the devil had managed to strengthen the abortion industry and paint Christians as religious nuts by causing a public outcry on such a horrific act.

Paul writes that ‘though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.  The weapons we fight are not the weapons of the world.  On the contrary, they have divine power.’ (2 Corinthians 10:3-4).  Perhaps that is why Jesus himself, as he walked this earth, seldom spoke up about social evils, reserving his most condemning language for those, who like this gunman, tried to strong arm society into their own agendas.

We are called to fight a different type of battle than the world fights.  Our enemy is strong, fierce and will betray even his closest.  When we forget that and begin fighting an enemy other than Satan, even if he is a baby killer, we are fighting the wrong enemy.

To the King,

David
