The Dog Days of Summer
One of the things that I love about living in Kansas is the change of seasons. The bitter cold of January, the new growth in the Spring and the cooler days of Fall all bring with them a opportunity to experience the grandeur of God’s creation in a new light. But perhaps my favorite is the Summer. Longer days, hot afternoons with absolutely gorgeous nights, no wonder it’s called the Dog Days of Summer as the temptation is to just let it pass by on a lounge chair by the pool.
It’s a chance to re-connect with friends and family, and slow down a bit from the frantic pace of the rest of the year. One of my favorite activities is late afternoon rides on my motocross track followed by a quick dip in the pool to cool off. Last night as I was sitting in the early evening sun, drying off after one such ride, the peacefulness of it all was almost intoxicating.
And that’s where we have to be careful. For even though the busyness of our lives may be a bit more controlled, our enemy does not take the summer off. The battle continues to rage and too often I find myself laying down my weapons just a bit too much.
We all long for peace … and there will be peace, just not right now. And so as we enjoy the laziness of the summer, allow me to encourage you as well as myself, to remain vigilant. Your enemy the devil is still prowling around.
So the next time that you stretch out in that lounge chair by the pool, perhaps we could stop and ask God just what he may have for us this summer. Would probably be better than a dog's life!
To the King,
David

I really agree. This is a nice time for me to relax and cool down but I still need to keep my eyes open for what Dangers the devil if trying to put forth against me.
