The Warrior Within

I was attending a Christian event the other night, when we broke out in to small groups to discuss the topic at hand.  In the midst of some great conversation and thoughts, the issue of a rather disturbing minister in our area came up.  This man has a reputation of protesting homosexual events and even the funerals of fallen soldiers, displaying posters proclaiming what he believes is God’s hatred and damnation for such people.

I suggested that as we look at the life of Jesus, we really don’t see Him protesting the evils of His day so much as inviting those swallowed up in sin to walk with Him, to be with Him and to receive freedom from their sin in Him.  In fact, it appears that Jesus really saved most of his protesting for those who were doing the protesting – the religious leaders of his day.

I was a little surprised by the objection of a good, Godly man in the group.  His argument was that we must stand up for what is wrong … that we must not let ‘them’ win

From an American standpoint, I understand this.  This great country of ours is ruled ‘by the people’, and as such we all have an obligation to lend our voices in its ‘rule’.  It’s from a Christian standpoint that I differ. 2 Corinthians 10:4 tells us that ‘the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world’, and so we see Jesus accused of being a friend of sinners.

But then another thought grabbed me.  This guy is a warrior.  He is willing to lay it on the line for Jesus, to step into the battle.  I may disagree with his approach, and I don’t know his true heart, but he is a warrior none the less.

It is true of all of us.  There is a warrior in each man, a warrior that is being called to engage. This man, and many like him, those who are willing to stand for their faith, are closer perhaps than many of us are to engaging the enemy.  But like all men of battle, we must be trained on the correct use and choice of our weapons.

Like this man, I too am very concerned about the direction of both our beloved United States, and even more so, our glorious body of Christ.  It is time for us to find that warrior within, to train him or her up, and to engage our enemy, our true enemy:  the one who comes to steal, kill and destroy.

To the King,

David
